Memorial Day 2011

Memorial Weekend was rainy and wet, but we still ventured out to put flowers on our loved ones graves. Our kids love to do this. Our kids honestly love the cemetery more than the park. They love to look at all the gravestones and pick all the flowers back up that have fallen over. They run around and ask a gazillion questions about things they see. We definitely feel that it is very important for our children to do this each year and we are always talking about our loved ones who have passed on, so that our children feel as if they know them personally even though they passed before our babes were even born.

Memorial Day is definitely a special day for our family.

First stop was Grandpa Charlie. The kids are obsessed with this cemetery, it is close to where we live so we visit often.

Papa, Grammie and Nana took the kids around and showed them our families gravesites. The kids think this is the coolest thing ever.

We took the kids across the street to the older part of the cemetery where we showed them their great great grandparents and their great grandparents graves. Parker was mesmerized, Hannah loved the flowers and Ava just wanted to sit on everything she saw.

I inherited a tea set that was my grandmas little sister Helens. This is her gravestone. I showed Hannah and she said we definitely needed to take a picture. The teaset is in Ava's room and is definitely one of the things I cherish most.

As we were looking around, Ava yelled, "Mom see." I turned around and she was casually sitting on someone gravestone smiling. She wanted me to take a picture of her. It was hilarious.

Then we headed to Grandpa Oreon's grave. The kids love this cemetery because it is on top of this huge hill and overlooks the valley. Plus, there are bunnies hopping around everywhere.

Ryan, Parker and Hannah headed back after going to check the bunnies out.

I still can't believe how much snow we still have in the mountains. It is crazy!

Then we headed to Grandpa and Grandma Smith's and Debbie the Aunt's graves. The kids also love it here because there is a waterfall and statues in the cemetery.

Memorial Day was a great day spent with family. Our kids are already asking when we get to do flowers on the graves again.
